Single Networks SIMs vs Multi-Networks SIMs
As connectivity is key to any IoT device, you should do whatever it takes to makes sure the device is always connected.
For static applications which are not mission-critical, a single network SIM can work well. By working with one of our network specialists we can test the network signals and provide single network SIMs or multi-network SIMs locked to the one network. A multinetwork SIM (sometimes called a global roaming SIM) works by allowing the device to connect to different operators (3G, 4G, 5G etc.) globally and in the same country with a single SIM. This is ideal when you have applications that move and require tracking, network redundancy or when applications are globally geographically dispersed.
Traditional SIM vs eSIM
When considering the life of your SIM or device, it is not just the multi-network capability but also the SIM itself – it can change out requirements to future proof your devices. Embedded SIMs (eSIMs) are starting to become the de facto standard for IoT devices. A traditional SIM card locks you into one mobile network or preferred networks with a physical SIM swap required to change networks (a costly process if the devices are geographically dispersed) on a single network SIM.
